Open/Close Rebecca Ashby - Studio Manager / Content Developer

Rebecca AshbyAs Studio Manager Rebecca oversees all Notion Studio Projects, organising the logistics and paperwork, while working closely with clients and the Notion Studio team to ensure project objectives, deadlines and budgets are met.

A creative thinker and skilled content developer, Rebecca takes a hands-on approach during the pre-production and idea development stages of projects, conducting research and devising project strategies, pre-production / e-marketing reports, as well as compiling written content and scripts as required.

With a background in graphic, web and multimedia design, Rebecca has a keen visual eye, and a broad knowledge of the software and equipment used by the team. Rebecca takes an active role on film shoots, directing the cast and crew.

Rebecca also manages the www.inspirationbank.com website, an in-house project targeting the creative industry sector, that she has led the development of from its conception.

Open/Close Jon Lewis - Avid Editor

Jon LewisAs Editor, Jon is our video specialist, responsible for the production of digital video from standard definition to HD, for Notion Studio's multimedia film projects.

Jon is proficient in all stages of production. With a keen eye for a good shot, Jon is our lead camera operator, acting as Director of Photography on film shoots. In this capacity Jon has worked on a number of regional, short film projects, and has plans to work on a feature length production in the near future.

With a particular interest in post-production, Jon combines his professional experience of editing packages Avid Express Pro, Avid Media Composer Adrenaline HD, Premiere and Final Cut Pro, with his passion for generating special effects and motion graphics using Adobe After Effects and Combustion, to provide highly creative solutions for clients.

Open/Close Richard Coldicott - 2D Animator

Richard ColdicottAs our resident 2D Animator, Richard draws on his passion for hand-rendered artwork, traditional animation techniques (hand drawn cells, stop motion) and digital processes (Animo, After Effects, Photoshop) to provide innovative solutions for clients.

With his vibrant imagination and propensity to experiment, Richard plays a key role during the concept development stages of all Notion Studio projects, with particular emphasis on character development and storyboarding.

With formal training and a diverse background working in the arts, Richard boasts an impressive portfolio and skill set that encompasses graphic design, illustration, video, photography as well as animation. An all round enthusiast Richard can often be seen in the community, collaborating with other Midland's artists or working on his large scale mural artwork.

Richard enjoys sharing his skills with others and acts as a natural mentor to trainees and our work placement students.

Open/Close David Perry - Studio Technician / 3D Animator

David PerryAs Technician David takes care of our equipment and software, ensuring the smooth running of Notion Studio, as well as the general Screen Media Lab facilities used by other staff, researchers, trainers and students.

An animation graduate and enthusiast, David comes to us from Valiant Productions, where he worked on the CGI animated feature film 'Valiant', initially as an intern, working in a variety of roles, and subsequently as a full time Render Wrangler.

Aside from his technician duties, David works with the team on 3D animation projects, using Maya as his software of choice, as well as Photoshop and After Effects for texturing and motion graphics. David is always happy to demonstrate the capabilities of 3D software and is always eager to offer assistance to trainees and our work placement students.

Open/Close Stephen Tew – Junior Avid Editor

Stephen TewAs Junior Editor Steve will work along side the rest of the team in the edit suite and out on film shoots.

Having recently graduated with a BA in film and video form the University of Wales Newport, Steve has been involved in numerous student productions, working from concept development through to screen, being particularly involved in cinematography and the post production. His Graduation film "La Lumière" has had excellent feedback from all including Ken Russell who helped with some of the script development.

Steve's main passion lies in post production and he is a proficient video editor, with knowledge in Avid Xpress pro and much of the Adobe creative suite. Eager to branch out into all areas of post production including motion graphics, compositing and DVD authoring, Steve is extremely motivated and a fast learner.

Open/Close Sara Harris - Director of External Projects

Sara HarrisAs Director, Sara manages the activities of Screen Media Lab; which includes Notion Studio and the sister projects Media Content Lab and Media Skills. She also develops our commercial and research activities.

Sara has been a Senior Lecturer in Digital Media since 1998 and teaches on the MA Media Production programme. She has recently developed and validated two new Master of Arts programmes in Media Enterprise and Event and Exhibition Management.

Sara is currently developing with the team an animation forum, an enterprise and internship programme and research projects with enterprise partners.
